1966-England-Lion Willie
World Cup Willie is the mascot of 1966 Word Cup. It’s also the first mascot of World Cup and the first mascot of international big sport events. Willie is a lion, which is the typical symbol of British Empire. It’s wearing polo shirt printed with the Union Jack and “WORLD CUP”.
1970-Mexico-Juanito
Juanito is a little boy wearing the polo shirt of Mexico national team and broadbrim printed with “MEXICO 70”. Juanito is the nickname of Juan, a common name in department of Spanish.
1974-West Germany -Tip and Tap
This mascot features with two boys wearing the jersey of West Germany national team, printed with “WM 74”. WM equals Weltmeisterschaft, which means World Cup in German.
1978-Argentina-Gauchito

1986-Mexico-Pique
A jalapeno can surely be found in Mexico food. Maybe this is the reason why the Pique appeared as the mascot of World Cup. The Pique is named from the picante in Spanish, wearing a particular large-brimmed hat of Mexico.
1990-Italia-Ciao
Ciao is a matchstick footballer. He controls the football with his head and his body uses three colors, which stands for the tricolor of Italia. It’s designed by a famous Italian artist. In Italian, ciao means hello.
1994-America-Striker
The mascot of this World Cup is a dog named Striker. It’s jersey adopts the same color collocation of American’s flag. “USA 94” are printed on it.
1998-France-Footix
This is a chanticleer, which is one of the symbols of France. “FRANCE 98” are on his colpus. His body is blue, the same color with the jersey of France national team. His name is the mixture of football and –ix, coming from the famous “Astérix et Obélix”. The other names of this mascot include Raffy, Houpi and Gallik.
2002-Korea and Japan-Ato, Kaz and Nik
The colors of them each is orange, purple and blue. The design of them embodies futurity and computerized. They are all the member of Atmoball. Ato is the coach. Kaz and Nik are players. The names are selected from all the names supplied by the users of internet and host’s McDonalds.
2006-Germany-Goleo VI and sidekick: Pille
A lion wearing the jersey of Germany national team, accompanied by a football only having expression. Goleo is a compound word consisting of goal and leo, which means lion in Latin. In Germany, Pille is the colloquial of football.
2010-South Africa-Zakumi
Zakumi is a big leopard with green hair. He wears jersey printed with “SOUTH AFRICA 2010”. The green and golden of Zakumi represent the color of South Africa national team. His name is coming from “ZA”, which is the code of South Africa in ISO 3166. And the “kumi” means ten in kinds of South Africa languages.
